Volunteer Partners

The gift of presence, the profoundly simple ability to be with someone as they walk through difficult times, is perhaps the greatest ability God gives pregnancy center ministries.

Volunteer partners are needed to be receptionists, client advocates, nurses (LVNs and RNs), Reality Check speakers and Jump Start mentors. Excellent training is provided for each of these positions. Volunteers who go through our training feel confident and competent in whatever area of ministry God calls them to. (See below for descriptions of volunteer positions and to hear from some of our volunteers.)

Many volunteer positions are available which do not require training, such as taking care of our gardens, helping sort donations for the clothes room, helping prepare mailing projects, etc.

Special events volunteers assist the Director of Development with various fundraising events throughout the year such as the Walkathon and the Benefit Banquet. Duties may include being a church liaison or planning committee member.

Volunteer Positions

Client Advocates – Client advocates provide crisis intervention counseling for clients in an atmosphere of warmth and compassion through listening and other helping skills. AWF provides excellent preparatory training (15 hours of classroom instruction) as well as the observation of experienced client advocates. After sufficient instruction and observation, the staff works closely with new client advocates in performing their duties.

Time commitment – A two to three-hour per week commitment (Mondays through Thursdays between the hours of 10:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M.) is requested and arranged according to the Center’s needs and the volunteer’s availability.

Why should you volunteer as a client advocate at A Woman’s Friend?

Because volunteering with AWF enables you to:

  • Serve God on the home mission field
  • Share the Gospel with the lost
  • Make a difference in someone’s life
  • Learn effective communication and listening skills
  • Achieve spiritual growth with a stronger prayer life and dependence on God
  • Learn how to educate others on adoption, abstinence and abortion
  • Be a part of miracles in the lives of women and their unborn babies

Receptionists – Our friendly receptionists warmly greet clients, are the first friendly faces seen, help with initial paperwork, and assist the staff with clerical tasks. AWF provides excellent preparatory training (15 hours of classroom instruction) as well as the observation of experienced receptionists. After sufficient instruction and observation, the staff works closely with new receptionists in performing their duties.
Time commitment – A two to three-hour per week commitment (Monday through Thursday between the hours of 10:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M.) is requested and arranged according to the Center’s needs and the volunteer’s availability.

Reality Check Speaker - You will be part of providing our community’s youth with the message of sexual integrity by emphasizing the emotional, physical, and social benefits of postponing sex. Our volunteer speakers share their personal story with students to encourage them to wait until marriage to have sex.

Jump Start mentors – As a mentor in the Jump Start Program, you will provide ongoing support to clients in the program by participating in Jump Start sessions, scheduling follow up appointments, reviewing information from sessions, answering questions, and by providing a consistent face through the duration of their participation in the program. Mentors are under the supervision of the Jump Start Coordinator and receive specific training.

Time commitment – 1-2 hr weekly commitment

Clinic Nurses (LVNs and RNs) – Clinic nurses work in conjunction with volunteer physicians providing support and care for clients. AWF provides excellent preparatory training (15 hours of classroom instruction) as well as clinic orientation provided by our Nurse Manager.

Time commitment – Nurses are scheduled to volunteer on Friday once every three or four weeks from 11:30 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.

Support and Special Event Volunteers – Support volunteers assist with various tasks such as preparing mailings, maintaining the clothes room, gardening, clerical assistance, etc. Special event volunteers assist the Director of Development with various fundraising events throughout the year such as the Walkathon in the Spring and the Fall Benefit Banquet. Duties may include being a church liaison, a planning committee member, helping with decorating/set-up, being a team leader, etc.
